Affordable Living in the Heart of Monster

The Westland municipality has embarked on an exciting redevelopment project in Monster, following the decision to relocate the municipal offices to Naaldwijk. This transformation focuses on revitalizing the former office site and surrounding areas in Monster’s town center. The decision to demolish the old building stems from a vision to rejuvenate the area, creating new opportunities for social interaction and better connectivity with the shopping district. In response to strong housing demand, plans were approved to build a new block of 40 apartments, designed to serve both starters and seniors.

The design emphasizes architectural integration and harmony with the local environment. The U-shaped block features 40 thoughtfully arranged apartments. The northern wing, facing the main street, has a distinctive pitched roof that enhances its charm and blends well with the surrounding architecture. The other two wings showcase a striking vertical design, adding dynamism to the façade while framing the public space.

To cater to different needs, a variety of apartment types are included, with essential amenities located on the ground floor for optimal use of space. The redevelopment also brings a fresh green element to the public domain, as greenery from the current plot extends into the new design, creating lively spaces for community interaction and connection.

Status: Under construction
Team: Johan de Wachter, Katarína Karásková, Fleur Verhoeff, Nicolette Marzovilla, Gongbu Han, Liene Medniece, Marieke van Hensbergen, Joris van Arkel
Collaborators: DWA, Boogards Constructiebureau, ZRI
Client: Arcade Wonen, Weboma
Location: Monster, NL
Program: 40 Apartments for starters and seniors
